Tornadoes

Texas Hazard Mitigation Package (THMP)

SUMMARY DATA

Data Layer:
Tornadoes (F3 – F5): 1950 - 2003
Content:
Number of tornadoes (Major; F3 or greater - see Fujita scale below) from 1950 to 2003, summarized by county
Counties categorized into 5 classes using the natural breaks method
Use Notes:
Identify the relative risk of this hazard, as expressed by historical occurrences by county

Direct statewide download of this data layer.
User options for downloading this data layer or others by county (or statewide), use the Download Utility

Data layer was compiled internally, sourced from NOAA / NCDC -- see Tornado Events data layer below

Data Layer:
Tornadoes (F1 – F5): 1950 - 2003
Content:
Number of tornadoes (All; F1 or greater - see Fujita scale below) from 1950 to 2003, summarized by county
Counties categorized into 5 classes using the natural breaks method
Use Notes:
Identify the relative risk of this hazard, as expressed by historical occurrences by county

Data Layer:
Tornado Risk Zones
Content:
Relative risk areas from tornadoes

Zones represent number of recorded tornadoes per 1,000 sq. miles

Zone 1 = < 1
Zone 2 = 1 - 5
Zone 3 = 6 - 10
Zone 4 = 11 - 15
Zone 5 = > 15

Use Notes:
For purposes of determining home shelter needs, please use this map in conjunction with Wind Risk Zones and the associated risk chart. To do so, click source below and/or overlay both data layers on Map Viewer.

Direct statewide download of this data layer.
